It is presented that John Rownd senior who held of the Lord of this Manor a Tenement and a garden called Pratts Garden by fealty, suit of Court and the annual rent of 8d., a hen and ten eggs for the tenement, and for the garden 6d., has died since the last Court, whereby there became due to the Lord for a Relief 4d. and the third part of a halfpenny, one third of a hen, three eggs and the third part of an egg. Richard Rownd is his son and next heir and is of full age, and the Bailiff is ordered to distrain the said Richard to pay the Relief and to do his Fealty to the Lord etc.

After the death of Dorothy, late the wife of John Sancty gent., he had one croft called Foweracres by rent of 10d. and 7 acres more or less of wood called Upright by rent of 14d. He also held another parcel in Cowpers land (Heriotable) together with the last mentioned holding by the total rent of 6d., a hen and 10 eggs.
He has alienated the said three perches of land to Nicholas Halfepenny. Relief, one third of the rent. Nicholas has since alienated the tenement [sic] to Richard Spencer, Esq. The Homage present upon their oath that Richard Abbott one of the Tenants of this Manor in his lifetime did in Frogge lane in Orpington within this Manor take in and encroach (by letting out of his hedge there) ten foot in length and five foot in breadth upon the highway: and therewithal took in a common well, which encroachment in manner aforesaid made Richard Abbott his son and heir after notice thereof unto him given hath and yet doth continue unto the prejudice of the Tenants of the Manor. Therefore a day is given unto him until the next Court for the laying out of the said encroachment, upon pain of forfeiting unto the Lord of the Manor 40s.

Yet notwithstanding, at the request of the said Richard and to avoid trouble the Lord of the Manor doth grant unto the said Richard his heirs and assigns for ever all the land by the said presentment supposed to be encroached. Yielding and paying therefore yearly at the Feast of St. Michael unto the Lord and his heirs 2d. for a fee farm rent for ever.

Miles Beveridge gent. who held, amongst other things, a parcel of land called Shortlands alias Shawlands of half an acre on which a messuage has lately been built, by rent of 1½d., has alienated it to Michaell Croucher. Relief, ½d. Michaell is in Court and did his fealty; the Bailiff is to distrain him for Relief.
John Winterbourne, gent., held a messuage called Hayne house and a parcel of land in Cowpers land, Heriotable, late the lands of Mathew Beckett, by rent of 3d., one hen and 10 eggs; also another messuage and garden by rent of 13d., and another parcel called Barnefield by rent of 2s.10½d. He has alienated all these to William Gee, Esq. Relief, 1s.4d., the third part of a hen and the third part of 10 eggs. The Bailiff is to distrain for Relief and fealty.

[literal transcript] – Edmond Thomas his farm in Orpington with the lands thereunto belonging One farm called Annotts in Orpington late in the possession of Nicholas Ellyott, one tenement in Orpington called the White Hart in the tenure of John Carpenter and one parcel of land in the possession of the said Carpenter called Greene Hawe containing 2 rods upon which a house is lately built, one other parcel in Orpington called Greene Hawe [sic] in the tenure of Mistress Rolfe at the yearly rent of 10s., and 2 acres at Crofton in the Parish of Orpington called Bore acre in the possession of George Smale, are the demesne lands of this Manor called Little |Orpington otherwise Mayfeild, otherwise Mayveild in the County of Kent, and none other to our knowledge.

He has alienated all these holdings to John Swift, gent. Relief, 17d., one third part of a hen and 3 eggs, and the Bailiff is to distrain for Relief and fealty.

Joseph Staple held 3 roods of meadow at a place called Newell, late Thomas Borde [sic] by rent of 7½d., and also a moiety of a messuage called Russells by rent of 1d. He has died, and Samuel Staple is his son and heir. Relief, 3d. and the Bailiff is to distrain for this, and for fealty.
Joseph Churchman held a messuage called Holmes, lately in the tenure of Henry Kirkman, by rent of 13½d. He has died: Relief, 4½d. The Homage is ignorant as to who is his heir, and a day is given for them to enquire and present.
Thomas Langridge held a messuage in Orpington being a Corner house by rent of 7d. He has died, and Anne and Joane Langridge are his daughters and heirs. Relief, 2½d., and the Bailiff is to distrain for this and for fealty.

A watercourse running through this Manor between a close of Clement Clay’s called Homefield and an orchard of his is in need of scouring, in the fault of the said Clement, to the common nuisance. A day is given for it to be scoured before Christmas next on pain of 10s.

She has died, leaving the holding to her daughter Frances, wife of Zachary Hogesteth, gent. Relief, 8d. Zachary is in Court to do his fealty, and the Bailiff is to distrain him and his wife to pay their Relief.
