This 18th of February 1644

In the name of God Amen
I John Santie of Orpington in the County of Kent gent being sick and crazie in my body and yet god be praised of sound and perfect minde and memory doe make and declare this my last will and Testament in manner and forme following ffirst I re’mend my soule to god distinguished in three glorious persons hoping notwithstanding my manifold sinnes to be saved by the only and all-sufficient passion and sufferinge of my only Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and my body I comitt to the earth to be decently buried at the discrec’on of my executor hereafter named Item I give and bequeathe to Dorothie my loveing wife all those my messuages land tente and hereditaments now in the tenure of me or my assignes and being in the said towne or parrish of Orpington together alsoe with the one half of all the cleare rent and proffit of all my lands messuages tente fresh or salt marishes lyeing and being in the parrish or parrishes of St Maries and Halston in the hundred of Hoo in the said County now in the tenure or occupac’on of William Yates or his assignes for term of ther n’rall life, The rent of the said last menc’oned twenty days after the receipt of the same by my said executor Item I give and bequeath to my said wife and sonne John to be devided betweene them equally the Corne and hay in the house and lambes mare Colt and all other cattle corne and hay in the barne and groweing which I shall have at the tyme of my decease Item I further give and bequeath unto my said wife the summe of ffyftie pounds to be payed unto her within six months after my decease Item my will and minde is that my said wife shall have hould and em’oy to her owne proper use all with good bedding household stuff and implements of houshould brass pewter or other thinge which she brought unto me by marriage the propty thereof is not altered Item I give and bequeath to my said wife the free use of all my plate goods houshould stuffe bedding brasse pewter and implements of houshold, whereof I shall dye possessed for and dureing her nr’all life, with power to dispose at her pleasure by her last will or otherwise to the value of xx £ and to avoid all questions that may arise therabout my will and minde is that the same be inforced and praised by 2 indifferent men named by my said wife and executor within one moneth after my decease Item I give and bequeath to my brother Tho. Santy the sume of tenn pounde to be paid sixe months after my decease. Item I give and bequeath to my brother Roger Santie the sume of five pounde and two suites of my apparrell at the discrecon of my executor and to his two sonnes Roger and John the sume of six pounde apeece to be all payed and delivered to each of them as then be liveing within six months after my decease item I give and bequeath to my Cozen James Santie the sume of twenty pounds to be payed within six moneths after my decease Item I give and bequeath to his 3 sonnes and 3 daughters twenty shillinge apeece to be paied to each of them as then be liveing within two yeares after my decease item I give and bequeath to my Cosen Anne More and her sonne and 3 daughters the sume of xxs apeece to be paied a yeare after my decease Item I give and bequeath to my Cozen Winifrid Andrewes and to my Cozen Briget Santie the sume of five peece apeece to be paied unto them within six moneths after my decease Item I give and bequeath to my Cosen Alice Bradwell and to her sonne and daughter xxs apeece to be payed two yeares after my decease Item I give and bequeath to Elizabeth my maid servant xxs and to Will’m Jenninge my servant xs to be payed six months after my decease Item I give and bequeath to the poore people of Orpington fortie shillinge to be paied to the overseers for the poore within one moneth after my decease The rest residue of all my goods Chattles Cattles debts and estate my debts and funeralle first paied and discharged I give and bequeath to John Santie my Sonne and hare whome I doe hereby make and ordaine the executor of this my will And I doe hereby intreat my said brother Thomas my Cozen Jarvis Andrewes and my good and *** frend Oliver Flage of London Girdler to be overseers of this my will and to be ayding and assistant to my said sonne in the execution hereof And for the paines of the 2 last named overseers I give to each of them five pounds to be payed six moneths after my decease And my will and minde is that yf any question or difference which god forbid shall at any tyme happen or arise betwixt my said wife and my said executor or any other touching or concerning this my will or any Clause or article therein that the same shall be ended and setled by my said overseers or two of them at the least In wittnes whereof to this my will conteyned in two sides of paper close written I have sett my hand and seale the day and yeare first above written John Santie Sealed signed and delivered in the p’sence of Tho.
